Firkin bucket with handpainted lid. A 'firkin' was an old British unit of measurement (no longer used) that was normally equal to 1/4 of a barrel. It was usually a small wooden tub or bucket that was used to hold butter, lard, sugar etc..
This bucket is in great condition with the original wooden handle . There are wooden bands that encircle the bucket and help to hold it together and it is very solid.
