Late C18/earlyC19th Iron Pigtail Candlestick

Late C18th/early C19th iron pigtail candlestick on fruitwood base - probably pear wood - also called a rat de cave.  The candle height adjuster (often missing) moves freely.  The hook (like a rat's tail hence rat de cave) was originally used for hanging.   Base has a lovely rich patina but some staining - as can be seen in the photographs.
